10 Life lessons I wish I knew in my 20s.

10 Life lessons I wish I knew in my 20s.

Simple life lessons for yourself

  • Rule 1. There are no hard rules in life. The less you buy into conventional wisdom, the more opportunities you’ll have.
  • You can have almost anything you want. The question is, what are you willing to give up for it, and is it worth it?
  • Forget YOLO. That’s nice, but the reality is more like YLOL (You laugh out loud at whatever life throws at you). Closing the gap between expectations and reality will help you reduce your own stress.
  • Youth is a valuable depreciation asset class. Be mindful of where you store your asset and how you invest.
  • Wisdom on the other hand is a appreciating investment portfolio. The more you cultivate and diversify your portfolio, the more you have to draw on in the future.
  • Approach long-term relationship as you would shopping for a bed. Sure, those Instagram worthy tufted beds with 100 pillows look nice, but you’re the one that has to lie in it and make your bed each day with those 100 pillows. Choose a bed that suits you and your needs. The hardest part of this is distinguishing between your needs, and the needs you’ve been sold.
  • Money does not buy you happiness, peace of mind, serenity, dignity, joy, nor contentment. For those you have to do the hard work of working on yourself.
  • Money does buy you food, shelter, transportation, vacations, security, more opportunities and a certain degree of freedom to walk away.
  • Branding matters. Whether it’d be your personal brand or the brands you associate yourself with like Manhattan, Google, or Harvard. Just be mindful where and with whom you cultivate your brand so it can’t be easily taken away.
  • Eat your veggies and avoid sugar. Your health is a savings account with very high fines for overdraft.
